Learn to… Art! Has a Newsletter!

Cast your eyes to the right of the screen and scroll down below the Popular Posts section and you’ll see it: the newsletter!

All you need to do is enter your e-mail, then check your inbox for the confirmation link (don’t forget to check your junk folder just in case!).

What’s in it for me?

Well, you’ll get updates about the best and latest info on the blog, you’ll get juicy tid-bits from the rest of the web that you won’t see on the blog, you’ll also be the first to know about upcoming promotions and/or giveaways, as well as you will recieve info about my work and exhibitions.

What if I already subscribe to the RSS Feed?

These are two totally different things! The RSS feed lets you see the blog content (the articles, etc) without actually visiting the blog site. The newsletter will be entirely separate of the blog and contain information and resources that you won’t find on Learn to… Art!

What do I do now?

Use the form to the right or click here to subscribe to the newsletter!

Learn to… Art! Rolls out a New Look

Hello Readers!

After many agonizing revisions behind the scene, Learn to… Art! ’s new look is finally finished.

I apologize if this interruption caused any troubles for you. I know there’s been some problems with the server being down, but hopefully that’s all sorted out now!

Aside from a new and improved design, Learn to… Art! now features a selection of useful links in the sidebar, a tabbed section that allows you to browse through recent posts and comments, and a section for featured articles.

As always, feedback is much appreciated. What do you think? Do you like it? What works and what doesn’t work? I’d love to hear from you!

Thanks for your patience over the next few days as work out the bugs and continue to tweak some minor things.

All the best,
Miranda

Introducing… Me!

artist portraitHello everyone!

This is a happy announcement to let you know that I’ve added my picture to my “about me” page!

At first I was a little hesitant to plaster my image all over the internet. I couldn’t tell you why, other than it seemed like a private thing made too public.

Since then, I’ve discovered a world of artists and creative peoples that I never knew existed! I’ve made new friends, I’ve found a wealth of information and I’ve learned more than I can say.

This weekend I actually met a Twitter friend in person! I visisted Kendra at her painting exhibition downtown. It was so cool because had it not been for Twitter, I never would have met her!

I’ve learned that a large part of blogging is about trust, and if I want you to trust me, I need to trust you as well! Therefore, you now get to see my face on my site and on my Twitter. If you’re not following me, please do! I look forward to chatting with you.

And just for fun…

Things I LOVE about Blogging (that I didn’t expect)

  • Meeting new people
  • Making friends
  • Getting new ideas
  • Discovering new artists
  • Finding awesome art resources
  • Finding great blogs to follow
  • Having a support network
  • Feeling like a part of something

My Favorite Birthday Present

art supply tool box

As some of you know, it was my birthday this weekend. I turned the ‘big’ two-five! I had a wonderful weekend including a surprise dinner with my parents and an overnight stay at a lakeside bed and breakfast. In short, I was spoiled!

And what birthday is complete without gifts? I was also spoiled in that department, receiving snazzy purple earphones for my ipod, a few of my favorite books, some driving gloves and comfy, fuzzy slippers! But my most favorite gift of all this year? An ancient tool box!

This relic had been in my parents’ garage for nearly ten years. Before that, it belonged to my uncle, who passed away when I was in high school. Who knows how long he had it, but this baby was definitely made back when things were built to last!

My dad recently hauled it out and asked me if I wanted it. It was covered in rust and full of junk, but how could I resist?

On my birthday, my dad presented it to me. He had lovingly cleaned it out, scrubbed it free of rust, and painted the bottom jet black and the insides fire engine red. Still smelling of fresh paint, it was a thing of beauty!

You may be wondering what in the world this has to do with art. Well, my constructed paintings are made with traditional carpentry tools: hammer and nails, wood glue, skill saw, screws and screw driver. These are the tools of my trade, and I consider them to be as important as my paint and brushes. Also, being a female and wielding these ‘masculine’ tools makes me feel special!

This empty tool box is full of promise and potential. I am very much looking forward to filling it up with all my bits and pieces. I love its family connection, and the fact that it’s old. There’s not a single one like it in the whole world!
